Minors don’t drink as much alcohol as previously thought

The Feds recently reported that 25% of all alcohol is consumed by minors. After this headlined a new release detailing the report, the Columbia University’s National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse recanted, stating that they had errored in calculating this statistic, which was based on the Household Survey on Drug Abuse data. In fact, teens consumed 11.4% of all alcohol, according to the survey.

Perhaps PR departments should conduct business in this manner–lie for the headlines and admit to a math error at a later date. Oh wait, they do report in this manner–it’s called earnings restatements and shaves 50% off their share price.
